"A Small Circle of Friends"
by Phil Ochs

The first stanza in "A Small Circle of Friends” is about the murder of Kitty Genovese. This was a murder that happened in New York. A girl was stabbed 3 times, and 38 people were witnesses. Only one person called the cops, and it wasn't until several hours later.
The satire in this song is that they never call the cops because they say people outside a small circle of friends wouldn't care. All they do is make excuses. Throughout the whole song, many problems are presented and excuses are always made.

"Born in the USA"
by Bruce Springsteen

"Born in the USA" is believed to be a patriotic song. Many people who know this song think that Bruce Springsteen is really proud to be born here and to be american.
The satire in this song is that he's not really proud to be born here, he is being sarcastic. While reading the lyrics you can see that this is actually mocking the government of America and how they force people to go to war. Satire was used in this song because it was written during a time when America was divided into two parts, people for war, and people against war. He didn't want to be put into either category, because if he said what he really meant then people might boycott his music for not viewing ideas the same way.
